According to ESPNcricinfo, the highly awaited ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024 will take place from June 4 to June 30 of next year. The event will be conducted in the Caribbean and the United States of America for the eighth time.
The event will be held in ten different locations, with the United States hosting a worldwide cricket competition for the first time. Initially, there were reservations about holding the tournament in the United States, but those reservations have been dispelled.
An ICC team recently evaluated potential venues in the United States, including Lauderhill, Florida, Morrisville, Dallas, and New York. Lauderhill has previously hosted international T20 matches, and the United States is now hosting the inaugural Major League Cricket (MLC). However, the Dallas, Morrisville, and New York venues have yet to be granted international status.
The ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024 will feature a record number of teams, with 20 competing. Ireland, Scotland, and Papua New Guinea recently qualified in regional qualifiers, joining the twelve teams that had previously qualified: the West Indies, the United States, Australia, England, India, the Netherlands, New Zealand, Pakistan, South Africa, Sri Lanka, Afghanistan, and Bangladesh.
The format of the competition will be different from past seasons. The twenty teams will be split into four groups of five. The top two teams from each group will go to the Super 8 phase, where they will be split into two groups of four. After that, the top two teams from each Super 8 group will advance to the semifinals.
