Pervaiz Elahi ‘satisfied’ with Imran Khan’s decision

LAHORE: Punjab Chief Minister Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi said on Saturday that he was pleased with former Prime Minister and PTI Chairman Imran Khan’s decision to dissolve legislatures.

“I was happy with Imran Khan’s choice from the start,” Punjab Chief Minister told reporters outside the former Prime Minister’s mansion in Lahore’s Zaman Park.

Punjab and KP assembly will dissolve on Dec 23

Pervaiz Elahi restated his support for PTI Chairman Imran Khan, claiming that Imran owed the Punjab government. In response to an inquiry, the province chief stated that work on seat modification in Punjab has only recently begun.

Imran Khan had already indicated that the Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) legislatures will be dissolved on December 23.

The former prime minister made the announcement while speaking to the country alongside the chief ministers (CM) of Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Pervaiz Elahi and Mahmood Khan, respectively.

Imran Khan praised the two provincial heads for their cooperation with his party and said he had discussed the issue with the PTI’s attorneys, adding that the Constitution does not allow elections to be delayed for more than 90 days after an assembly’s dissolution.

The PTI head detailed the party’s strategy, saying that after dissolving the legislatures, the party will prepare for elections. “We will go to the National Assembly and demand that the NA speaker accept all of our resignations rather than just a handful,” he continued.

The former prime minister added that a “lesson should be taught through elections” to the administration and hand it “such a setback that the identities of these crooks are wiped away forever”.
