ISLAMABAD: The federal government has decided to limit the authority powers of the Higher Education Commission ( HEC ), Daily News Publisher reported on Tuesday.
The cabinet committee for legislation has given nod for the amendments in the HEC laws. According to the proposed amendments, the status of the federal minister will be taken back from the HEC chairman and limited the HEC powers.
The laws of HEC will be approved by the ministry of education, while the executive director of the Higher Education Commission will also be appointed by the government.
The amendments will be presented before the federal cabinet for final approval, the sources said.

On December 4, the Higher Education Commission invited innovative start-ups owned by students, alumni, faculty members, or researchers from public or private sector universities to apply for the Innovator Seed Fund (ISF) Grant.
In a statement, the HEC noted that Innovator Seed Fund (ISF) Grant – envisioned for the development of innovation and start-up ecosystem in Pakistan – is a flagship initiative of the commission under the Higher Education Development in Pakistan Project (HEDP).
